News Module in RSS Format Ideal for Marketing

I know that I keep banging on about this feature in iPages, but the RSS News module is just a must if you want to be found on Google. It's so affordable as well at only £7.50 pcm and if used properly will certainly give your competitors a run for their money.

On March 2nd I asked myself what would someone key into Google to find information on websites and iPhones. I came up with the phrase "website appears on iPhones" and put in the words "Does your" to help make the headline easier to read. Today I keyed in the former phrase and there was my news item number 1 in the world compared to 1,170,000 000 results! Even I was impressed.

Perhaps you are wondering if you have the time to write news every day, but think of the savings you'll be making on Search Optimisation companies, advertising and marketing. It takes around five minutes to write news, and as long as you take a couple of moments to think what a prospective customer would key into a Search Engine to find your product or service then iPages' RSS News Module will do the rest.

What are you waiting for? It might even be worth having an iPages that links to your existing site just to promote your services. That'd work out at around £13 pcm, so why not call us today on 01403 786984 to see how we can help you.

Does Your Ecommerce Website Check Addresses and Card Numbers?

With internet fraud on the increase it is essential to know that your ecommerce solution is checking information for you before you receive it. For example customers email addresses should be checked to see if they are legitimate, and the payment card number that they put in should actually exist. If these items are wrong, does your ecommerce website stop potential fraudsters from continuing? If your answer is "I don't know" then it might be worth checking with your web development company.

At iPages we want to make your website work for you and to try to put in markers to provide better security for you. One such marker is ensuring that all email addresses are checked to see if they actually exist, and if they don't the potential customer will be asked to provide another one. Also our ecommerce solution is programmed to recognise actual payment cards, so if a customer makes a mistake keying in the number the system will know. In addition iPages provide additional protection by letting you know if the card holder's address matches the delivery address and wont let you dispatch the item until you confirm that it is ok to do so.

These small benefits can help to save you time and money, so if you are considering choosing an ecommerce solution why not have a word with us and see how we can help you.

Online School Brochure Ideal for Marketing Schools

Marketing any business effectively can be a challenge, but brochures are an ideal medium to illustrate effectively what your company does. However, sending out circulars can be expensive and with people using the internet daily to find information iPages can be an superb way of reaching a target audience at a low cost.

It can be argued that every website should be a brochure in its own right, but recently I have been impressed by one of our newer websites The Blue, an online brochure for Christ's Hospital School. It is a very professional, good looking site, but it also gives excellent information and makes effective use of the RSS News module that is available from iPages.

If you are a school looking to let prospective parents about what you can offer, why not call iPages and see how we can help you. For schools we are more than happy to work out an annual budget for you so that you are able to plan for the expenditure. Having your brochure available online could save you a substantial amount of money in postage and printing costs, so if you're interested why not call 01403 786984 and find out how iPages can promote your school online.

cdw+partners raises the bar on iPages Website Design

I was looking through some of our client list and found cdw+partners, retail design consultants, had recently launched their new website. This is not an ecommerce website, but even I was taken aback by how fabulous it looks, and what can be achieved with iPages! Not that I'm trying to limit iPages ability to deliver beautiful websites, but I looked at the site and was blown away by the look of the site. And please don't think that I dislike our other sites, Lagom is beautiful, as is Beautiful Britain and Dragons, but this is the first time I had seen this type of formatting used on an iPages.

It is also worth taking a look inside the site because each picture in the shopping trolley has a link on it which alters the image on the page. This makes the site interesting and informative and adds interaction with the web visitor. You can have a look by clicking here.

So if you'd like to have a superb looking website, full of functionality, and with no upfront development fee, why not give us a call on 01403 786984.

Does Your Website Appear on iPhones?

With the use of iPhones and iPods to search the web it is essential that your website works with these devices. Unfortunately these products do not support Flash and so there has been a trend in the web design market away from Flash to other types of programming that allow movement on websites.

An iPages' website will enable your customers to browse your site with their phone and they will be abe to subscribe to your RSS news feeds. This is extremely important as more and more business is being done over the move.

It has also been our experience lately that some of our customers have had Flash sites prior to having an iPages' website and been charged a fortune for making even rudimentary changes. The expense of this has meant that sites are not updated, giving the site less appeal to prospects and customers. All our websites are content managed, enabling you to edit your own website, and where design changes are needed these will be charged by the hour, and at a reasonable fee.

There are some occasions where we do use Flash in our iPages sites, but we also use JQuery to add movement where appropriate.

If you are disappointed in your website that it doesn't do all that you wish it to why not call iPages on 01403 786984 and see if we can help you.

Unique Visitor Statistics Versus Google Analytics

I am a great believer in Google analytics and recommend all our iPages' ecommerce websites use this facility. This is easy with iPages as we have a place on each website to paste in the Google Analytics code so that statistics on the website can be recorded by this major search engine. But is there a difference between Google's findings and the unique visitor statistics that iPages can provide for £2.50 pcm? Well we record the number of unique visitors to your site by looking at their computer's address and if they visit you more than once in a day they are only counted once. Our statistics are not usually as optimistic as Google's, but the trends are the same.

It's really important to be aware of how many visitors come to your site, which areas are most popular, how long people stay and look at your information and how quickly a visitor exits a page (the bounce rate). This information will give you a good idea on how your website is performing, how many people visit your shop and whether your visitors are growing. If you send out a marketing email you'll be able to see how people have responded to it and whether it was successful or not at raising the number of visitors to your site.

Personally I would have both Google and iPage's statistics as part of formulating my marketing strategy, it certainly has helped us to focus our efforts.

Car and Motoring Forum Car4Play uses same Forum Software as iPages

Ah yes it's Saturday, but that is the beauty of iPages, you can work from home and no one in the family knows that you're doing it! "Just checking out some bits on the internet darling," is my usual reply as I have a quick look at our unique visitor stats and sit down to ponder on what to share with you next.

We are very excited here at iPages because the new motoring forum Car4Play was launched last week using virtually the same software that iPages uses for those customers with forums. Forums are an ideal way of increasing traffice to your site, as long as the subject matter appeals and the posts are interesting. At iPages we provide the ability to have private member forums, or you can open the forum to the public. Naturally our forum software adheres strictly to the Data Protection Act and we know that it is trustworthy because it has been used for several years by the Prison Service.

How can you enhance your site with a forum? By asking relevant questions that the public would want answering that relate to what you are marketing. If you can encourage your current clients to use it and regularly post yourself with answers then you can encourage traffic to your site. And there is no harm in adding some Google adverts to your forum, which will hopefully help you to recoup the cost of the module.

We're always looking at ways to increase business here at iPages, and the Forum is certainly a module that can increase visitors to your site.

Use of Sage Pay on Ecommerce Website Soon to be Available

At iPages we are always looking at ways to make selling online easier for our prospects. Sage Pay is a common way by which many businesses take payment via an ecommerce website and so we will shortly be introducing the ability for our customers to sell online with iPages using Sage Pay.

"We are nearing the end of our payment development and are extremely pleased with the ways things are progressing," said Dr Stephen Khoo, Director of iPages. "Offering other payment providers for our businesses to integrate to will be a positive step forward for the company, and should remove a hurdle for some companies to use iPages."

If you'd like to find out more how iPages can help you to sell online call 01403 786984.

Ecommerce Website Company Always Friendly

You can see by the dates that I have already defaulted on my promise of 2 News items a day, although my persistant banter has helped Google to put us on page 1 for Ecommerce website for a change. I am sorry that my dedication to this part of iPages is not as it should be, but it is 21:17 and I am still working (everyone thinks that I am reading the news online, when in fact I am secretly creating some!!), so I do feel a bit self righteous and am hoping that my efforts pay off.

The beauty of iPages is that it is not locked onto one p.c. in your office. If you've an ecommerce website we're hopeful that you'll be getting orders during the evening, and if you're anything like me, you'll want to fiddle with your site when it's quiet and you've no demands from your customers. So I'm actually just showing you how easy it is to use iPages on a lap-top at home as the iPages ecommerce solution is web based and changes are made automatically on the internet when you click the save button.

It is not my intention to sing the praises of the News module, I really just wanted to comment on a recent occurrence. I was contacted by someone who has a website (not ecommerce, but very comprehensive) with a rival company as one of our clients suggested that we might be able to help their friend with some issues. What was their problem? Well they weren't being found by Google and couldn't understand why. It took me a couple of moments to ascertain who had developed the website, and I've met some of these guys and know that not only are they good, but they're really decent people, but the site had no optimisation and this explained why the site wasn't being found.

You're probably wondering if I put on my best sales hat and persuaded the person to join iPages, but I didn't! I know, I know, it doesn't make good business sense not to poach another company's customer, but I just couldn't. So for the next 20 minutes I gave free advice on how to move things forward, and received nothing but a thank you for all my hard work. I'm not looking for you to reach for your cheque books to send me a donation towards my philanthropic actions (mind you that would be nice as our laser printer isn't performing quite as it should), nor am I expecting you to turn to iPages for free advice (perhaps our strap line should be: " We are not a charity!"), but I am proud of the fact that as a company we can offer friendly advice that is not along the lines of "on your bike!".

So if you're looking for an ecommerce website and happen to not choose iPages, do check out what optimisation is included as part of the package. If this is not part of the deal then I would strongly suggest that you look elsewhere as not having this in place will cost you dearly.

Ecommerce Website Design Company seeks Junior Web Designer (Freelance)

At iPages we work closely with our associates and they become friends rather than colleagues. That is why we're promoting this web design job at Sunset Design. Sunset Design is a superb company that has worked with us for nearly 10 years. Sites such as Dragons of Walton Street, Lagom and Working Week are all examples of their work.

As a result of iPages' success, particularly in the area of ecommerce websites, Sunset Design now need help! So if you meet their job criteria, and have a flare for design, are meticulous (and by that we mean pixel perfect!) then why not apply. Once you learn how to use iPages then you will find it a really useful tool to develop your career, and increase your income.

I understand that agencies need not apply as Sunset Design are looking for self-motivated individuals, and yes a keen sense of humour is important (especially as you'll be working with the iPages' team!).

To fill in an application form please click the link here.

An Ecommerce Website with iPages - Perfect for the Technophobe!

I have just finished a very pleasant conversation with a prospect (if you're reading this I think that we'll do an excellent job for you!) and one of the things that came out was whether or not iPages was suitable for those less familiar with the internet than others. Mmm, this is an interesting question and I thought that it would be worth trying to answer.

I guess that when you hear the word "ecommerce website" or see "e-commerce website" glaring at you from your computer screen you might be thinking "help"! I can't blame you, after all selling online can be a daunting process, and prior to this job I didn't know anything about the web, which might explain why I am often the first point of call at the end of the phone. So how does an iPages ecommerce website come to be and what does this involve for you?

Firstly you find out if you can work with us, and whether or not iPages will work for you. I think that there has to be a mutual respect for any business relationship to work and having confidence in your ecommerce provider is essential. We'll show you some of our sites, talk you through some options and listen to what you want. It's very important to us that you have the website that you'd like, but we will guide you if we feel that your website just won't make any sales for you.

During the first conversation we'll talk about what iPages can do for you. After all these years working here I'm still amazed at some of its features, and how easy it is to sell online. Then we'll discuss the design fees and what we'll want from you, and then we'll send you a written quote. Our website is full of information and we are always happy for you to talk to some of our customers if that'll make you feel happier.

Once you've agreed that you want an iPages site we'll get you in contact with the designer who'll work with you to ensure that your website will be beautiful, and functional. In addition we'll set up your email, register a domain, organise setting up your card payment processing account with Universal Payment Gateway, and start the optimisation process. Your designer will work with you to put in products, images (so essential that these are good to make your ecommerce website a success) and text.

We'll then give you an overview of the website, its features and what happens next and then you are ready to start testing your site to see just how good it is! After that it's all plain sailing, but we are always at the end of a phone to talk you through anything.

So as you can see we really do take the fear out of having an ecommerce website, so if you'd like to learn more call 01403 786984 to see how we can help you.

Promoting Your Ecommerce Website

Since enjoying my delicious supper on Friday night (what you missed my post?!) I've been mulling over the challenge of promoting an ecommerce website online. I have come to realise that the internet is a powerful way of increasing sales and that social networking can certainly increase the popularity of an organisation. The question is, do you have the tenacity to go for it on the web?

I am convinced that it is not just emailing your current customers that increase your sales. As you know sending out HTML emails can certainly help improve your market reach and that's why iPages has that useful function to add to your ecommerce module. But I have been thinking about an interesting occurrence that happened in our house last week when my son made a group called "I thought I bought a bag of crisps, but got half a bag of air!", or something like that, on a social networking site. What was fascinating was that this group attracted 300,000 people within a week! Now I know that most of these people are probably not in the market for buying online, but it does show how a social networking site can promote something. So I certainly won't be adverse to starting to use Twitter or Face Book if I wished to raise our profile, particularly as it's free (though not sure anyone would want to follow my ramblings!).

Another thing that I've come to realise is the strength of the RSS feed. Yes we wrote about this yesterday, but it's just dawning on me that there's so much that can be done to promote your business. What if you decide to chat on forums that use RSS feeds on their headlines? What if you put a post on a popular forum that had appropriate and interesting content, but also included your company name in capitals. Google loves RSS feeds, it loves the title tags that are put behind a forum post (if it's been coded correctly) and it thinks that a sentence is important if it includes capitals - not sure that I'd get away with it here if I wrote my titles in caps! What if you choose the time when you post? 1am might seem a bit early to you, but I did question if you have the tenacity to make it on the web! All these things will ensure that your company name starts to be known, and if it's known, what's to stop people visiting your online shop and buying?

I am also convinced that if you are a person who just loves to talk, then why not do it online, either on Twitter, Facebook or on your own iPages blog? The more I look at the internet the more I realise that there is an art to being successful and arguing that you've not enough time to update your site, blog or write news won't help you to climb the ratings in Google. I'm talking to myself here and am determined to see if writing a couple of times a day, if not more, will help iPages to climb up the pages on the search engines.

Why don't you set yourself a similar challenge? I am going to update my website daily, use an RSS News Feed, blog more and see what happens! Happy marketing!

Can News Help Your Ranking on the Internet?

Mmm, that's an interesting question, and one that we here at iPages are asked regularly. Why should you even be thinking of adding News, and is it of benefit?

Well we are great advocates of the RSS News Feed. After all look at the success of sites like Honest John (formally developed by Khoo Systems, the team behind iPages), which has been highly successful on Google and other Search Engines. Even this humble news item will help iPages in its bid to climb up the pages. But what we really like about the News feed is that you can blog, or let web visitors know more about what currently is happening in your company, and each time you write something it benefits your page ranking.

You might then wonder why your page called "News" isn't achieving the same success as an iPages News page. To answer that question look at the top box in your browser and see if there is the RSS Feed symbol beside the address of your website. If there isn't then the page isn't coded in an RSS format and therefore Search Engines will treat your News page as any other. If the News is written in RSS then your page will be successful.

At iPages we recommend that all our websites have the News Module. Not because we want the revenue (the module is cheap at only £7.50 pcm), but because we want a site to succeed. And if you use the News Module properly then it can make a real difference to how your website performs on Google. Unfortunately we can't add the RSS News Module to your existing website, but you can always find a programmer to add this feature. They'll probably charge you around £1400 for this so it might be worth you transferring your site to iPages and including the News feed.

To find out how iPages can help you please call 01403 786984.

Excellent Web Design a Given with iPages

It's late on Friday evening and you're probably wondering why on earth I am still at the office wittering on about how wonderful iPages is. I am asking myself the same question, not because I have changed my mind over iPages (it is, after all, a superb solution to ecommerce, HTML emailing, content management, optimisation etc.), but because I have a lovely supper waiting at home, and hopefully a glass of something to go with it.

Perhaps you think that my boss is such a hard task-master that if I do not finish my weekly quota of news items that I will not receive my annual bonus (oh that life were that simple!). If we were doing a "tick the box" scenario I would check "none of the above", I am just driven to write down some thoughts on web design that I take for granted.

I am not able to explain to you what is driving my desire to stay late and write down a few thoughts, but the last couple of days have been significant and we have come to realise here at iPages just how good we are. I hesitate to say this because it seems somewhat boastful, after all there are many web development companies who will give you a clean and professional website, and hats off to them for upholding the reputation of web design companies. But when I chat to prospective clients about iPages, providing them with a good design is a given; the site working is a given; even when the banks change their demands we will take months off our normal schedule to rewrite our payment system (and this isn't even charged for!), this is a given!

What is entirely evident to me now is that our high standards are not always shared, or appreciated. Yes we do charge a fee for our design, but what you'll get for you money will be fabulous, and their are many unique features about iPages that are so easy to include on your website.

So, I have finished my musings for the night and wonder if perhaps my time at iPages would be better off blogging (so easy to do with iPages!) rather than writing news! It's Friday, and supper beckons. I hope that you are able to enjoy your website this weekend, that there are no niggles (or glaringly obvious mistakes) that bug you, and that you can relax over the weekend knowing that your site is making you money. If not, you know where to find us.

Enjoy!

An Ecommerce Websites doesn't have to be daunting with iPages!

Selling online for the first time can be daunting, but iPages is the perfect system for entering the world of ecommerce. With no large development fee for the code, and using a system that is used successfully by numerous other businesses, the risk is extremely low. We also have no long contractual obligations, knowing that once you start using the iPages' ecommerce solution you'll probably not only stay with us, but are likely to start another ecommerce venture!

Having confidence in what you are buying is really important. With over 10 years experience, and having worked for large companies like Rolls Royce, British Nuclear Fuels and Honest John (a website with over 50,000 unique visitors a day) the coding team behind iPages has a wealth of commercial coding experience. And yet we are an ethical company that understands the pressure of business and we work with our clients as if their business is our business. That means that when you ring up for advice you are highly unlikely to be charged for it. If we do work for you it will be at a reasonable rate and we can always advise you on other ways to market your product/service in addition to the internet.

Are we all geeky? That's a question that might cross your mind before approaching us, but don't fear most of us have been employed because we were clueless about the internet! Having a distinct fear of computers and the internet has helped some of us to relate really well to our customers!

Will we sell you something that you don't need? Don't worry, we send some people to our competitors because iPages may not be right for them. These enquiries are normally from people who do not want to change the content of their website, or want something that looks cheap, and iPages just isn't right for them. Whatever is the best for you, and even if we don't make as much money as we could, we will always work for your best interests. There are few companies out there that offer this type of service, but we are extremely traditional in the way that we treat our clients, which probably explains why we have kept so many over the years.

So if you need an ecommerce website, but are worried who to approach why not call us and see how we can help you! You could be selling within the next few weeks, and wishing that you done this years ago.

Optimisation of Products the Norm with iPages' Ecommerce Website

If you are looking to increase sales online with your ecommerce website then you need to consider how successfully your products are optimised. If the items that you're selling on Google can't be found easily then why not take advantage of an iPages' website.

Our own ecommerce site www.macstore.co.uk specialises in iPod and Mac accessories. Let's see how successful we are on Google for one of our best sellers, the Vestalife Lady Bug II. With an ecommerce website from iPages you can pay a fiver a month and have your products uploaded onto Google's product data base. Also with our built in optimisation for each product you will find that your item will be featured high on Google.

You'll see that below Amazon's paid Google product Mac Store features first in the world for the Lady Bug. Also are ranked in the top ten on Google for this item (this rating resulted from the in-built optimisation of the product and a news item).

How much did this cost us? A couple of minutes in time only and on top of the £5, £7.50 for the News module, and £35 for the ecommerce module. Do well sell many lady bugs? You bet we do and as the emails go straight to the supplier (another superb feature of our ecommerce module) we don't have to do anything to make a profit on the item.

This might sound too good to be true, and yes we are offering the Lady Bug at an excellent price. But that does not withstand the success that the product has on Google.

Your online shop could be equally successful, without having to pay for the services of a Search Engine Optimisation company. Why not call us today on 01403 786984 and find out how we can help you.

Specialising in superior quality hand made make up brushes Kim Brushes are looking to make a real inroad in the beauty industry, and are using iPages' ecommerce solution because it is so easy to manage content and has in-built optimisation.

"This is a brand new company," said Dr Stephen Khoo, Director of iPages, "But they are so excited about the functionality of iPages that has enabled them to have a beautiful website that will manage their business for them. The company was particularly impressed by the ease of which products can be added, and how the products can appear on line with a couple of minutes."

"We were looking recently at a You Tube promotional video by one of our competitors whose unique selling point was the ability to make the site on the desk top. We were wondering why on earth you would want to do that when you'd want to see how your product looks on the web as soon as you'd uploaded the details and images? At iPages we scale images for you, and admittedly these might take a few seconds to load, but at least you can see what your site looks like and can make any alterations quickly and simply."

"Our ecommerce solution is quick and easy to use and is full of features that companies would usually charge extra for.
Does Your Ecommerce Website Check For Fraud?

Recent research carried out for CyberSource reveals that online fraud is the greatest threat they face. The survey found that merchants lost an average of 1.8% of online revenue to payment fraud in 2009 on orders that were then found to be fraudulent.

At iPages we are specialists in ecommerce websites and we flag up every order where there is some discrepancy in the card details. Where the customer's address doesn't match the delivery address, or the customer address doesn't match the card's address iPages puts a warning against the order. The order can then be clicked on so that the customer's details can be scrutinised before the order is placed.

Another safe guard that is written into iPages is that the CV2 security code is always checked when the order is taken making fraud that much harder. The inclusion of 3G will also shortly be appearing to enable additional security checks to be made by the bank.

These small checks are included to ensure that our ecommerce clients can sell online confidently, knowing that if there is a problem the system will flag it up.

If you would like further information on how our ecommerce websites work then call 01403 786984.

Put Your Brochure Online with iPages

At iPages we have discovered another benefit of our websites. They are extremely good at showing your brochure online. If your business, school or service is spending time and money on posting out your advertising materials, why not let iPages show it for you?

An example of how good a brochure can look is Christ's Hospital's website The Blue. This provides detailed information on Christ's Hospital and illustrates superbly just how good your marketing material could look to web browsers. Being able to embed marketing material in just a page is an ideal way of reaching a large audience. The potential of this application is enormous and for only a small monthly fee, and the cost of a good web designer your company could be making substantial savings in mailing costs.

To find out more call 01403 786984 to see how we can help you.

Does Your Contact Form Collect Data for Marketing Purposes?

At iPages we believe that even your contact form should help to build your business. So with an iPages website you can customise your fields, and make them compulsary if you wish, to ensure that you gather the information that you want. This might be how the person has found your website, what services or products they're interested in. Then, once you have gathered sufficient information you can download the data into an Excel worksheet to help you to analyse all the relevant facts.

"This benefit of iPages is included as part of iPages Contact Form module," said Dr Stephen Khoo, Director of iPages. "It is a feature that has been embraced by many of our customers as they are keen to find out how clients have found the website so that they can target their marketing campaigns appropriately. At only £2.50 pcm this module is a real bargain and certainly is of great benefit."

If you would be interested in an iPages website call 01403 786984 to see how iPages can help you.

Are Credits Easy with Your Ecommerce Website?

If you're running an online shop then you are governed by the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000. These allow a cooling off period of 7 days and customers can send back the goods if they don't like them and expect a full refund. There are, of course some exceptions, but for the majority of retailers they have to provide the ability to credit a customer if they return a product.

At iPages we have designed our ecommerce websites to take on board this legal requirement. Each person that shops on an iPages website is immediately made a customer and their details are stored. This information not only relates to their personal details, order, invoice, and events, but also gives information on events, emails and card transactions. The system has also made available a simple way of crediting a customer if they return the goods. By simply clicking on a button called credit/refund you can credit back the whole order, part of the order, shipping, or any miscellaneous amount that you need to. It really is a simple as that. The accounts section of iPages will keep a trail of all transactions so that they can be allocated and your book keeper or accounts department can see easily what invoice has been credited.

At iPages we want to make your ecommerce business as easy as to run as possible, so if your current system does not currently do this why not call 01403 786984 today to see how we can help you.

"We have numerous enquiries from start ups, but many of them want to see how their business succeeds before committing to a merchant bank account. By providing integration to Pay Pal we will be able to help these companies and hopefully help them to have a successful online business."

This programming is currently underway, but will be ready shortly so if you would like to sell online using Pay Pal, why not call 01403 786984 to see how we can help you.

Unique Visitor Statistics Reflect Ecommerce Marketing Success

The ability to see statistics on unique web visitors has helped our ecommerce businesses track the success of their emailing marketing campaigns. At iPages we record the unique web address of each visitor to each website, and if the visitor returns more than once in one day we only count their visit as one.

Most of our websites who sell online take advantage of our Contacts Module. At iPages we can enhance your ecommerce website by incorporating a catalogue that has moving pages.

"This feature is becoming more popular," said Dr Stephen Khoo, Director of iPages.
Ecommerce websites work whatever the weather

Whatever the weather an ecommerce website will not stop you reaching your target market. As the icy conditions continue outside many retailers have seen numbers down on shoppers visiting their stores, but the internet continues to give a strong return.

An ecommerce solution, such as the one offered by iPages, is a superb way of taking the strain out of shopping in such dreadful weather. The online shop will look beautiful, and will be quick and easy to navigate. With iPages' search tool as standard customers will be able to find products quickly and the buying section of an iPages' ecommerce website is smooth and simple.

Your website will send out confirmatory emails automatically and when you are ready to dispatch the goods will create a delivery note and an invoice. All your sales data can be allocated to quarters, or months, enabling you to have a full breakdown of your sales activity. Your site will also show you which items are the most popular, which customer bought what, and details of all your non-empty carts.

These days internet fraud is a big issue, but if the delivery address doesn't match the payment card's address you will be notified. If the card has a problem, or the email isn't valid, you will be told. This way you are in control of the sale and can make valid judgements on whether or not to process the order.

All a business has to do is to have the site created, sort out delivery options an internet merchant bank account and iPages will do the rest.

Why not call today to see how iPages can help your business to increase its return online?
Business to business ecommerce made simple with iPages

As a new year begins businesses must be considering ways to increase their online sales. At iPages we have seen a growth in sales of business to business ecommerce websites. These types of sites are either specifically for trade, or combine sales to both online shoppers and wholesalers. The advantage of this type of ecommerce website is that you can decide what discount to give to each wholesaler for any given product.

"Enabling our businesses to increase their market reach to resellers has definitely benefitted our ecommerce customers," said Dr Stephen Khoo, Director of iPages. "The module is simple to set up and apply and enables resellers to go online and see products at their given discount. They can then buy online as a normal customer, but at a discount rate. This naturally saves our customers time and effort as they no longer have to process orders from their resellers."

At iPages we are always looking to enhance the functionality of our ecommerce solution. Including a reseller module is a useful means of benefitting customers and at only £17 pcm the module can dramatically improve the efficiency of the sales process.

For more information call 01403 786984.

New Year Sales Achieved Simply with iPages' Ecommerce Website

Ensuring the best from your ecommerce website can be an expensive business. At this time of year online shoppers are expecting to see a New Year sale on your website, but is this easy to achieve with your current online store?

At iPages our ecommerce solution has the ability to put in special offers simply and easily, with just a click of a button. Our ecommerce websites also have a function that enables discount voucher campaigns to be run, helping online shoppers to find an "online deal". These two features are just part of iPages' superb ecommerce solution, and have been used by childrens' furniture manufacturers Dragons of Walton Street. These benefits are included as part of a client's monthly fee.

"We have tried to make selling online as easy as possible," said Dr Stephen Khoo, Director of iPages. "However, keeping things simple for the online shopper doesn't mean that the functionality of our websites are compromised, far from it."

"We have spent years developing an ecommerce solution that not only provides beautiful looking websites, but runs most of the business for our clients. Our aim is to help businesses to have the time to focus on marketing and sales whilst iPages runs their online shop. Rather than employing staff iPages can undertake the job of an admin assistant generating order notes, delivery notes, invoices, credit notes, working out delivery costs, keeping record of events etc. By using a program to run the back office of an ecommerce website a company can make substantial savings in time and money."

If you would be interested in finding out how iPages can help your online business call 01403 786984.

Happy New Year from iPages - ecommerce website specialists

As 2010 begins for iPages we are busy putting together several new ecommerce websites. These range from bridal wear to wild bird seed, showing how flexible iPages can be for those businesses wishing to sell online.

It is going to be another big year of change at iPages as we look to develop our payment system to allow payment via Pay Pal and Sage Pay. Naturally we will still be offering businesses use of the iPages' payment system that integrates to a merchant bank account via Universal Payment Gateway, but we will be increasing the ways in which businesses can take money from customers.

An attribute module will also be created for our ecommerce customers to enable end users to search by categories, and we are hoping to include the ability for customers to leave reviews of products.

As we start the beginning of 2010 we would like to wish all our customers a very happy and prosperous New Year, and look forward to meeting new clients who are looking for a cost effective solution to selling online.

Ecommerce Website Proves Popular with Designers

An ecommerce solution that works for designers is definitely a benefit, and iPages is no exception. It is exciting to find that when web designers are introduced to iPages that they can immediately see how well it can work for their clients.

The iPages' ecommerce solution enables web designers to create a dynamic website quickly and easily. Not only will the website look beautiful, but with its functionality the website will do most of the work for the client. And what is more amazing is that there is no upfront development fee, just a small monthly fee that includes hosting, email, card processing payments, and optimisation.

"I am really pleased that iPages is being embraced by web designers," said Dr Stephen Khoo, Director of iPages. "It is always fantastic to receive praise about iPages, but the greatest compliment is when designers who are working for our customers decide to start using the system for themselves. Not only can iPages help designers to make fully functional sites quickly, but we do offer monthly commission on sites that the designer manages. This way the designer continues to earn money even after the design process is over."

If you are a web designer looking to increase your revenue why not call iPages today to see how we can help you and your clients.

iPages' Ecommerce Websites Help Shoppers By Loading Quickly

With research showing that shoppers abandon sites that load slowly iPages have yet another benefit to offer prospective ecommerce clients. All iPages' ecommerce websites are hosted on servers that have a substantial load capacity and therefore can cope with with large numbers of visitors requesting information.

"We have upgraded our hardwared considerably this year," said Dr Stephen Khoo, Director of iPages. "This means that our websites work incredibly quickly and are backed up several times over."

"At iPages we are always looking at trends in online shopping and amending our software and hardware to meet the market's demands. We also want to be able to offer our customers peace of mind with their websites. Knowing that we have back-ups of their websites and that they work well for end users enables our clients to focus on marketing and building their business."

"It's a mistake that is often made that if a website has a good position on Google that it will naturally perform well. This research shows that there is so much more to having a successful ecommerce solution than being optimised. At iPages we can help our clients to be successful on search engines, but we do not undertake their marketing. Naturally there are superb modules in place to facilitate this, such as our HTML emailer, discount voucher scheme, the News module, submitting products to Google etc., but unless a business makes use of these then we cannot always guarantee sales."

If you would like more information on iPages' ecommerce websites then call 01403 786984.

Ecommerce Website Sale's Boosts Reveue this Christmas

If you're anything like me you have been avoiding the hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping by ordering online. With a small glass of port on one side of my laptop, and my list on the other I am joining many of this nation's consumers and using the internet to find a bargain. It's not as if I'm not being persuaded to take advantage of online shopping, every day I am offered "deals" on the latest fashion, food and festive fair. And oddly enough these emails are working! Last week I bought a dress for £60 less than I'd seen it in a shop, and all because I'd received a promotional email letting me know that it was for sale.

Now you might be wondering what this has to do with iPages' ecommerce solution. Well, I've been looking at our customers sales and am pleased to see that they are doing well this month. This might be because with an iPages' ecommerce website you can have special offers, discount vouchers, and HTML emailing for only a small monthly fee. It may be because iPages' sites are so easy to buy from with security guaranteed. Maybe it's because we optimise all our sites and therefore they can be easily found on Google and other search engines. Or maybe it's because our News module enables our clients to inform their customers about specific products, which are then promoted by Google. Whatever the reason, iPages really has been helping our customers to increase their profits this festive season.

So if you're frustrated with how your ecommerce website has performed this holiday season why not call iPages on 01403 786984 and let us help you to get your sales back on track for 2010.

The Pure Fresh Tea launched their exiciting new ecommerce website this week. Specialising in premium tea, the Pure Fresh Tea Company offer the finest organic tea which is picked, prepared and dried all within the same
mountain location.

"Our ecommerce solution is very versatile," said Dr Stephen Khoo, Director of iPages. "Pure Fresh Tea chose iPages as they had seen the system in action and knew that it worked well, but required no upfront development fee."

"In the current economic climate it makes good business sense to choose an ecommerce website that has a proven track record. It is extremely risky to pay for a site to be developed that might not actually do what you wish it to. In addition, to have a site programmed with the same functionality as iPages would cost thousands, but you can be selling online within a couple of months with iPages."

If you would like more information on how iPages' ecommerce websites call 01403 786984.

The ability for iPages' ecommerce customers to submit their products to Google will be launched next week. We have done more business in the few weeks it has been going than we did on our old website in months.
What do we love about it?
The design: GORGEOUS
It is easy to use - I even moved products around myself with a two minute tuition!
The support from the iPages' team
Our clients seem to love it which is gratifying and they want to use it!!!
You have managed to combine design with ease of use, we are still on the beginners slopes, but we really are grateful for all the support and cleverness of iPages!! We think you are all super clever!
I feel as if iPages has given Dragons a huge leg up just when we need it most!

Kind regards

Lucinda"

It is always exciting to receive thanks for a website, but the immediate numbers of online sales being generated is proof that iPages' ecommerce solution actually works. Dragons is a beautiful website yet is so easy to use. Many of Dragons' products are bespoke, but iPages can offer the customer the ability to customise their chosen item.

Recent research by eDigitalResearch and IMRG predicts that 93% of UK consumers plan to shop online for Christmas gifts this year. Things that will influence consumers will be the ease of use of the ecommerce website, a comprehensive search bar and knowledge of what is on offer.

An iPages' ecommerce website is a superb way of increasing your sales at Christmas. Our websites are easy to navigate, have a comprehensive search bar and enables customers to be emailed with seasonal offers, discount vouchers, and new season stock.

The system is simple to use, easy to maintain, and will manage the admin side of your sales and reporting.
Ecommerce Website Prices Slashed

To help iPages' ecommerce customers remain competitive iPages have slashed the cost of their ecommerce module. For some clients this will mean a 40% reduction in monthly fees for this module and should encourage other businesses to opt for iPages as their ecommerce solution.

"We know that the recession has had an economic impact on some of our customers and wanted to do what we can to help," said Dr Stephen Khoo, Director of iPages. As a smaller company we do not have the large overheads that some ecommerce web providers have and so can afford to pass on our savings to our clients."

"Our ecommerce solution is a superb way of managing online sales. It is ideal for business to customer sales, excellent for business to business sales and outstanding at providing a system that combines the two."

"What we have done is decreased the monthly charge for our ecommerce module, which should help businesses to have more money to spend in other areas. We know that it is a radical step to slash prices, but we wanted to remain competitive whilst providing an excellent ecommerce solution."

"Our monthly fees also include full optimisation of an ecommerce website, and we absorb all costs charged by our payment service provider, Secure Hosting. This makes iPages superb value for money, and we are hoping will encourage other businesses to use our services."

If your business would benefit from an iPages' ecommerce website call 01403 786984 to find out how we can help you to grow your business online.

Upgrade to iPages Enables Improvements in Functionality

The iPages' upgrade that took place last week was a significant move forward for the company. Despite the enormity of the changes there were no apparent changes to any of our customers' websites. This reflected the amount of testing that had gone on behind the scenes to ensure that the update would not affect the way that the websites were viewed on the web.

"We have basically rewritten iPages," said Dr Stephen Khoo, Director of iPages. "And we are so excited by these changes as we can now move forward and make the various changes that we need to do. We are also aware that the system will now be more accessible to web designers who are not experts in CSS as the means of editing the sites is now more intuitive."

"Our next step is to finish the Directory, Resource Module and the Stock Control Module. We will also be developing an Attribute Module for our ecommerce website customers and will probably add the ability to review products."

For more information on iPages call 01403 786984.

iPages v2.1 upgrade

This page details the key changes made to the iPages website system by the 2.1 upgrade.

Appearance Designer

Removed any pages that changed content. These are now moved to a new tab Associated Content within the Edit Content section. (Explained more fully below.)

Revised all sections and created new sections Body Header and Body Footer.

All sections now have editable background style - colour and image. (Click on the chequered box within section.)

Section edit now via popup dialog type windows instead of using the left navigation.

Added customisable content margins to Content Body.

Added customisable gutter size to left and right columns.

New colour picker. It isn't obvious but you can press the escape key on your keyboard to dismiss this dialog.

Edit Content
We have made the item Site Root clickable to allow you to set up defaults for the whole of your site for page header meta tags and any associated content in areas surrounding your page. These defaults are inherited by all sections within your site unless you specifically override them in a section or page.

We have removed the menu section previously called Navigation Item Actions and replaced it with tabs above the content area. These tabs are:

Browse [page]
This was the original Preview page menu item.

Rename & Show/Hide
As before but we have changed Show on site nav to Show this page but do not place on site navigation in order to distinguish this from a new option Hide this page and any enclosed pages.

Show this page but do not place on site navigation

Works as before. Pages are accessible if you link to them (or if they are on Google for example) but do not appear on the site navigation.

If a page like this is the first item in a folder then it gets displayed when the folder is clicked on. This is the same behaviour as before.

If a page like this is the first item in your site then it also will get displayed when navigating to the home location of your site. This is different to previously when we skipped over pages like this. It makes the behaviour consistent and also allows you to have temporary home pages which are not on your site navigation.
Items "nav hidden" are displayed in italics in the admin navigation. Previously they were greyed out.

Hide this page and any enclosed pages

If a page is hidden it is never viewable on your site - even from a link to it.

This makes the behaviour of hidden pages consistent with hidden products within the ecommerce module.

Note that if you hide a folder any enclosed pages are also hidden. This applies to products within the ecommerce module if you place that module within a hidden folder.

Items "hidden" are displayed greyed out in the admin navigation.

Change Access Permissions [if access control module installed]

No change to previous.

Fixed bugs in redraw.

Head Tags
Previously named Change page title and search engine tags with fields Page title, Keywords and Page Description.
Now has fields:

Custom Page Title
Sets the page title for this page and this page only. So don't bother setting it at the site root, or on a folder because it will never get used as these are not targettable pages. Will override Automatic Page Title.

Automatic Page Title
Sets the page title for this and any enclosed pages. You can use the variable {_page_title} to insert the page title as displayed in the admin navigation column. Set the default value when Site Root is selected.
You may need to check your site page titles are set correctly. Please contact us if you are unsure what to do here.

Robots Meta Tag
Sets the robots meta tag for this and any enclosed pages. This controls how search engines index your site. Possible values are all, noindex and nofollow.
For example if you want a search engine like Google to index all of your site except a section in a folder called "Private", then set Robots Meta Tag to all in the Site Root and noindex when the "Private" folder is selected.

Keyword Meta Tag
As before, but where you used to set the default in a separate field, set this now when Site Root is selected.

Description Meta Tag
As before, but where you used to set the default in a separate field, set this now when Site Root is selected.

Custom Javascript/CSS includes
If you are code savvy you can set external CSS or include custom javascripts within this section. They will be applied to the selected page and any enclosed pages.

Associated Content
Previously called Override left/right/header content. In this section you used to update content associated with your page in either the left column, right column or in the content header above your content. This has been reworked into a new tab called Associated Content where you can now update content in seven sections of the page associated with your selected content. You can set the default content in these areas to be used in all sections by selecting Site Root and choosing the Default Associated Content tab. The seven areas are now:

Header
You used to set this in the Appearance Designer for the whole site. Now it can be set as a default for the whole site within Default Associated Content and overidden in any section or on any page.

Body Header
Previously Header Content.

Left Column, Right Column
Previously Left content and Right Content

Content Header
A new section above your content. This area is the same as that altered by the settings pages of some modules where one could change the header content. The modules and fields that we have removed as a result are:

Contact module: Edit contact form header

Events module: Event Settings->Event Header

Forum module: Forum defaults->Opening Header

News module: News Settings->News Header

Photo gallery module: Gallery Settings->Gallery Description

Resource module: Resource Settings->Resource Header

For compatibility we have copied data from these removed fields and inserted it into the appropriate content header.

Content Footer
A new section below your content.
As for Content Header some module fields have been replaced by this section:

Contact module: Edit contact form footer

Product module: Setup shop entrance->Shop Entrance Footer

Body Footer
New section similar to Body Header

In addition to these content editable sections we now allow you to alter the visibility of the Horizontal Nav Bar and the page Footer on a page or section basis.

The Content Body preview is shown to serve as a reminder of your selected page content.

Within each section on you can perform the following actions:

Disable
Turn off the effect of any changes you make in this part. i.e. ignore any hides, edits and so on that are applied here. You might want to do this if you have entered some text into the area but want to not have it displayed temporarily without having to delete it.
Disabled sections are shown with chequered content backgrounds.

Hide/Show
Checkbox toggles between Hide and Show. Hide hides a previously visible section. Show shows a previously hidden section. Hiding a section removes it from your published site page. It does not simply make it hidden using a style sheet.
Hidden sections are shown with greyed out background titles.

This page only
Normally changes you make are applied to any enclosed pages or sections. They are inherited down the site. This option allows you to apply the change you are making just to this one page and not the enclosed ones (which will instead inherit their content from that above you in your site hierarchy.) Use this, for example, when you want to change the news module header on the news listing page but not on the click through to news item pages, or when you want a footer on the shop entrance but not on any of the shop category or item pages.

Height
Some sections let you set the height in pixels for that section. Leaving this blank will allow it to expand to suit any content you place in there. Giving it a size will crop any enclosed content at that size. The box will expand to show you the height set.

Width
You can now set the width of your left or right columns on a section or page by page basis.
The width set is shown by a vertical bar and text wrap within this area.

Set by ....
A clickable visual indicator is now given to show you the content that will be displayed in this section if shown. For example:

{_pane_product_trolley} displays the ecommerce checkout tile of items in a shopper's basket;

{_pane_product_topsellers} shows a pane of top selling items;

{_pane_product_account} shows the customer account pane.
(This one has been removed as we now allow navigation with the product account module.)

We have extended this concept of site variables to allow you to use our built in variables as well as creating your own custom variables.

Built in variables are now:

{_page_title}

Title of page on navigation bar or item title

{_page_url}

URL of selected page

{_pane_rss:"feed",
"optional params as [key=val]&"}

Display RSS feed:

feed: relative url to feed, or full url to external feed
Optional parameters:

items: number of items from feed

words: number of words in feed description

hidedate: no date display

notarget: on click do not open new window

{_path}

Path up to (but not including) selected page.
You can now put the path to any page by inserting this variable into say your Default Associated Content -> Content Header

{_path_full}

Path to and including selected page

{_pane_vnav:[number]}

Vertical navigation pane (number is nav_id to build from)

{_pane_hnav:[number],[optional depth]}

Horizontal navigation pane
* number is nav_id to build from
* optional depth is how many levels to build

{_pane_bookmark}

Social bookmarking pane
This was a section previously hard-coded onto your site and made visible using CSS. Now you can insert it manually using this variable.

{_pane_product_search}

Product search pane
This was a pane that was previously hard-coded onto your site. Now it should be inserted manually into your associated content.

{_pane_product_trolley}

Checkout trolley pane

{_pane_product_topsellers}

Top selling items pane

Custom Variables
Create your own custom variables for use within your site. For example if you have a set of adverts you wish to place throughout your site you may have a chunk of HTML code that displays a particular ad. Instead of this code being placed every time on a page that needs it you can now make it into a custom variable and refer to it as a {#varname} in the content you are editing. It also means that if you have to alter this code you can do it once here and know that it will be altered everywhere it is referenced.

Ecommerce Module

Shop Footer

This contained a link to your shop terms and conditions.

As we now have an Associated Content->Content Footer section this has now been removed. If you have not created your own link to your own terms and conditions we strongly suggest that you create a link to a page of your terms within your Associated Content->Content Footer.

We suggest that you copy the text of your current site terms from Manage Ecommerce->Settings->Terms and conditions and place these in a separate page that you link to from your shop Content Footer.

We will be removing this section of your settings in due course.

Please contact us if you are unsure what to do about this.

Shop Entrance

We have retained the Shop Entrance Header and not moved this to Associated Content -> Content Header. This is because the {_pane_product_search} variable is now in the Content Header and setting the Entrance header there would require This page only to work, which in turn means that you would have to set the header correctly on every top level category to get the same effect. In short, more work for you which we don't want.

Added a menu action Setup commodity codes. Some iPages ecommerce customers need these on products that are exported. You can create your list of codes here and apply them when editing your products.

Categories

Have new option Do not show this item on site navigation to make them consistent with the option in the Rename & show/hide tab.

Hide this category and all items under it - may have to be reapplied to make it work, but it now will prevent the viewing of any sections or pages enclosed.

Hide shop for this category and all items under it - ditto for this.

Moving a visible category into a category that is hidden will hide it. Ditto for the shop hidden status.

Products

Have new option Do not show this item on site navigation

Moving a visible product into a category that is hidden will hide it. Ditto for the shop hidden status.

Added commodity codes for items exported.

Added country of origin for items exported.

These last two fields are also displayed on orders and invoices if they are set for a product item.

Export to 3EX

Now has a customisable list of fields to export

Import/Export (In stock module)

Altered to include new fields commodity code and country of origin.

Fixed bug where price would be set to zero if price1 not on import of existing product IDs or codes.

Checkout - Invoice/Delivery Screen

Fixed a bug where unusual characters in an address would stop the address being loaded and so stop the customer checking out.

Added VAT number to customers so that when they log in and check out their VAT number gets automatically added to their order and invoice.

Ecommerce Module - p-account

Now create a hierarchic menu for items within this and apply this to your main site navigation.

Navigation now shows this item as selected instead of product module.

Path to sections in built-in variables {_path} and {_path_full}.

Links Module

Fixed bug where categories were not being displayed in the site navigation.

Path to links now is included in built-in variables {_path} and {_path_full}.

Access Control

Locked sections WILL be visible on the site navigation. This applies to locked navigation items as well as locked shop categories. Previously only locked navigation items were visible.

If you do not want a locked item to be visible on your site navigation apply the Hide on site navigation option in addition. We have already done this for locked products or categories so that your site will look the same as before.

CSS changes
Ignore this part if you have never used the section "Appearance Designer -> Custom styles". It is really for techies only!

On every page in iPages we add classes to the body tag to reflect where a page is within the site hierarchy. This has been changed so that it now shows the classes:

"Template Body_{module} " where
{module} is the selected page's module code
is the path up to and including the selected page.

e.g. "Template Body_single Body_folder2346 Body_single2350 _Body_single2350"
"Body_single" - the selected page is in the single page module
"Body_folder2346" - the selected page is inside folder with nav_id 2346
"Body_single2350" - the selected page has nav_id 2350
"_Body_single2350" - you are on page 2350.

The selected page always will have an underscore '_' on the front of the class tag.

One consequence of this is where before we used Body_product0 in the shop entrance, you now should use _Body_product[nav_id] for CSS overrides within the shop entrance only.

Internet Explorer 6
We now prevent you logging onto the site administration using this browser. IE6 still renders your published site as before.

A superb website that shows iPages at its very best.

"This is a truly beautiful website," said Dr Khoo, Director of iPages. "It reflects the quality and outstanding design of Dragons' products, whilst combining all the functionality of a highly sophisticated website."

"Our ecommerce solution was ideal for Dragons of Walton Street because they are able to manage the content themselves, inform their artists of orders that come in, send out promotional emails and run their accounts through the website."

"Another reason why we were chosen was because optimisation was included as part of the monthly fee, and there was the ability to add news."

"We are hoping to see Dragons of Walton Street's internet sales increase dramatically with their ecommerce website, but know that iPages are giving them the peace of mind that the system will run the admin for them."

If your company would benefit from an ecommerce website call 01403 786984.

Featuring a company's brochure is another way of promoting products and good use of this has been made at Dragons of Walton Street and Ilex Press.

"Although our ecommerce websites are incredibly easy to buy from, and manage the admin of the sales process for you, we still want the visit to our websites to be a wow experience," said Dr Stephen Khoo, Director of iPages.

"Adding an online brochure can help the web visitor have a different experience of an ecommerce website. The brochures look beautiful and are a real pleasure to browse through to see the products displayed in a different way."

"Even non-ecommerce websites can take advantage of this functionality and can help to encourage web visitors to use services or visit a shop."

If your company would like to take advantage of an iPages' website call 01403 786984.
